A VERSATILE MIND
This independent, non profit event inspired by and hosted within the home of Sir James Young Simpson asks –
‘What is it about Scotland’s Drug problems that we just
don’t get?’
The Debate around drugs seems to be as fragmented as the many facets of experiences
in relation to drugs are – whether you are a Professional in the field, a Social
Worker, a Children’s Officer, a Medical expert, a Crime Fighter, an Academic,
a Politician – or a Midwife having her heart broken over addicted babies, or
a family member watching the stresses of drugs break your life apart. Excellence
of people and effort goes without saying – but are we caught in a Culture of
helplessness?
This project will focus on some of the ‘building blocks’ that underlie the many drug-related problems in Scotland today.
Starting with a powerful short play, telling one of the ‘stories behind the statistics’, each week there will be a talk given by an expert.
Each Speaker has been challenged to discuss the central proposition of ‘We Look But We Do Not See’ from their own specialist perspective - so it will be more than interesting to hear what these talks will be.
And to see what we think! Constructive dialogue is actively encouraged.
The project culminates on Thursday 8th November when our panel will convene, and will respond to questions provided over the course of the four events by various audience members.
Scotland’s
Drug Problems are everyone's concern, and this event is all about the
power of creative thinking.
The cultivation and coming together of Versatile Minds, in fact! Can you,
or your organisation, afford not to be there?
